Dallas shootings, Black Lives Matter and the local reaction

This week, we discuss the local reaction to last week’s violence — including the shooting of five Dallas police officers and the deaths of Alton Sterling and Fernando Castile, captured on video.  Fairfield Police Lt. James Perez gives us a law enforcement perspective. Then, journalist and Stratford Star editor Melvin Mason shares his perspective on the Black Lives Matter movement. Watch the show below:

Police Lt. Perez discusses his experience in community police training, including working in Dallas. He also discusses his reaction to recent videos of shooting deaths, misconceptions about the job police do and how to build connections with the community.

Later, Stratford Star editor, Melvin Mason joins Kate and Josh to share his perspective on the Black Lives Matter movement, racism and finding common ground.

Later in the show, Columnist Jim Cameron has tips for avoiding traffic when heading to Cape Cod this summer.

Finally, we break down some of the news stories we are following this week. Editorial Cartoonist Doug Smith if off this week but we preview a few cartoons.
