Rex Marine Center/Oxford Pizza Palace made it three straight Valley Independent Softball League wins by sweeping a pair from The Diamond Kings.
A three-run sixth inning broke a late game tie and sent Rex Marine/Oxford Pizza on to an 8-6 win in the opener.
After the teams traded zeroes the first two innings, The Kings plated a single run in the top of the third before Rex/Oxford answered with five to go up 5-1. The Kings made it 5-2 in the fourth, before knotting the count at 5 in the top of the sixth.
Rex/Oxford then came up with what proved to be the game-deciding runs with their three in the home half of the sixth and then allowed a single counter in the seventh, before snagging the final out to preserve the win.
In a game that was low on hits, Wayne Britto had a two-run single for the victors, while Dan Gallo went 3-for-3 for The Diamond Kings.
A nine-run fifth-inning explosion locked up a 17-4 Rex Marine/Oxford Pizza triumph in the nightcap.
After an opening-inning exchange of a pair of runs, Rex/Oxford went ahead 5-2 in the second. They upped their advantage to 8-3 after three and then wrapped things up with their fifth-frame outburst.
Steve Donnarummo led the way at the plate with three hits. Jeff Bryce, Greg Knobloch, Joe Peccerillo and John Fair notched a pair of hits each.
Britto in left-center field excelled defensively to help winning pitcher John Sinchak limit The Kings to five hits. A.J. Gallo was tagged with the loss.
Militia also extended its winning streak to three straight by edging Zingaro & Cretella 8-7 and 12-10.
Finally, in a pair of nail-biters, Buzz & Hank’s edged A Plus Exterior 7-6 before A Plus gained a split with an 8-6 eight-inning win in the nightcap.
