Bridgeport man pleads guilty to 7 robberies

Hold-ups occurred in Bridgeport, Fairfield, Stratford, Shelton and Westport in 2014

A Bridgeport man admitted Thursday to his role in seven armed robbers around Fairfield County during 2014.

US Dept JusticeDerrick Gilliam, 29, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to affect commerce by robbery, which carries a maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years.

Gilliam has been detained since his arrest on July 3, 2014.

According to Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, Gilliam brandished and pointed what appeared to be a handgun at employees during each of seven robberies.

On April 26, 2014, Gilliam, Lancelot Supersad and others committed robbed the CVS Pharmacy on Grasmere Avenue in Fairfield, stealing approximately $2,376.

On May 3, 2014, Gilliam, Supersad and others attempted an armed robbery at the Mobil Gas station on Noble Avenue in Bridgeport.

On May 10, 2014, Gilliam, Supersad and others robbed a Webster Bank branch on Main Street in Bridgeport, stealing about $4,170.

On June 1, 2014, Gilliam, Supersad and others robbed a Pizza Hut on Boston Avenue in Bridgeport, stealing approximately $250.

On June 26, 2014, Gilliam, Supersad, Anthony Santiago and others robbed the Residence Inn on Bridgeport Avenue in Shelton, stealing approximately $200.

On July 2, 2014, Gilliam, Supersad, Santiago and others attempted an armed robbery at the Sikorsky Financial Credit Union on Oronoque Lane in Stratford. That same day, Gilliam, Supersad, Santiago and others held up the TD Bank located on Post Road East in Westport.

Gilliam is scheduled to be sentenced by Chief U.S. District Judge Janet C. Hall on Oct. 20.

Supersad and Santiago previously pleaded guilty to the same charge and await sentencing.

This investigation has been conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Westport, Shelton, Fairfield, Stratford and Bridgeport police departments.

The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Douglas P. Morabito and Avi M. Perry.
