Shelton Police arrested a man for entering a garage and stealing a dirt bike Monday afternoon.
John Rotz, 54, of Shelton was arrested and charged with larceny 3rd degree and burglary 3rd degree after police were contacted by an “alert homeowner”, who reported a male walking onto their property, entering a detached garage and driving off with a dirt bike that was inside.
According to the police report, Officer Curran located a scooter parked down the street from the reported burglary. Officers were on scene investigating, when Rotz returned to claim the scooter parked on the street.
Officer Curran, Officer Anderson, and Officer Chapman were allegedly able to link Rotz to the burglary and quickly recovered the stolen dirt bike, which was hidden in the woods.
Rotz posted a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Derby Superior Court on Aug. 18.
Police are reminding residents to lock their residences, set alarms, and lock detached buildings and vehicles on their property.
