Board of Ed evaluates Superintendent after six months on the job
The Shelton BOE reviewed Superintendent Dr. Christopher Clouet’s evaluation during a closed special meeting on Aug. 17 to discuss an extension of his contract in Shelton.
Although not privy to executive sessions, the Shelton Herald was provided a copy of Dr. Clouet’s evaluation summary. Clouet had submitted a summary reflection regarding his first six months serving as Superintendent since he started on Jan. 1, 2016, which was reviewed during the evaluation.
Board members commented on Dr. Clouet’s performance since taking administrative office in January.
“We are all in agreement and in favor; we think Dr. Clouet is doing a great job for the school system,” said Arlene Liscinsky, secretary of the BOE.
Board member Faith Hack said that she believes Dr. Clouet is doing an exceptional job. She gave an example why.
“He has an enormous capacity for dealing with the community and that is a large asset,” Hack said.
In the evaluation summary, it notes Dr. Clouet’s ability to take the role as leader in the Shelton’s School System. It describes his transition as seamless and comments on his work with the community, saying he developed excellent relationships with staff, parents, and community members.
Dr. Clouet was credited with developing a new Strategic Plan, which is still ongoing, and for creating the new PTO Council. He was also commended for being viable, accessible and participatory in community events.
The evaluation noted that Dr. Clouet is establishing partnerships with the Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Shelton Economic Development Council. He was also credited for his BOE briefs, his 2016-2017 budget process, and his capital projects. He also initiated new curricula, emphasizing vocabulary as a foundation to advanced learning.
Board Chairman Mark Holden, Board said that the board discussed the contracts and extensions and will vote on the matter at their Aug.24 meeting.
