Girls soccer: Spartans beat Shelton in opener

The Amity High girls soccer team dropped Shelton High, 3-1, in the season opener on Friday afternoon.

A penalty-kick goal from Kaleigh Panek staked Shelton to an early 1-0 edge, before Jessica Hauser and Sarah Nevolis answered with goals for Amity to close the first half.

Emaa Gehr added an insurance marker in the 56th minute to provide insurance for the Spartans.

Shelby Offord made one save for Shelton, while Courtney Litts saved four shots.

Abby Allen made four saves for Amity.
