Democrat incumbent Jim Himes and Republican John Shaban, candidates for the U.S. House of Representatives 4th Congressional District, will meet in a debate on Sunday, Oct. 23, 5 to 6:30, at the Clune Performing Arts Center at Wilton High School, 395 Danbury Road/Route 7 in Wilton. The debate is presented by 13 area chapters of the League of Women Voters in Fairfield County.
Himes lives in Cos Cob/Greenwich and Shaban lives in Redding. Both candidates have accepted the invitation to this event. The debate facilitator is Jara Burnett of LWV Greenwich.
Stamford’s Kay Maxwell, a former president of the League of Women Voters of the United States and currently executive director of the Stamford-based World Affairs Forum, will moderate the debate.
The Wilton League of Women Voters is hosting the event. Co-sponsors are the Leagues of Women Voters of the Bridgeport Area (Monroe, Shelton, Stratford, and Trumbull), Darien, Fairfield, Greenwich, New Canaan, Norwalk, Northern Fairfield County (Danbury and Brookfield), Redding, Ridgefield, Stamford, Weston, and Westport.
The League of Women Voters is nonpartisan and does not support candidates. It encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy.
