Girls soccer: Shelton splits

The Shelton High girls soccer team split a pair of weekend matches, defeating Sacred Heart Academy, 1-0, and falling to Joel Barlow, 2-1.

On Friday, Kaleigh Panek scored the game’s only goal in the 36th minute to sink the Sharks. Sarah Skoronski provided the assist.

Shelby Offord made four saves to record the clean sheet, as Shelton secured the SCC Oronoque Division championship.

On Saturday, the Gaelettes traveled to Redding and fell to Barlow.

Panek scored the Shelton goal, while Catarina Barlow scored twice for the Falcons — the second on a penalty kick.

Shelton dropped to 9-5-1 and Barlow improved to 9-4-2.
