Girls soccer: Rams best Gaelettes

Shelton midfielder Kristen Shuster looks to connect a pass in the Gaelettes’ 5-3 loss to Cheshire High.

The Shelton High girls soccer team dropped a 5-3 decision to Cheshire in the regular-season finale on Monday night.

Kaleigh Panek scored a hat trick for the Gaelettes, tallying goals in the 29th, 59th and 71st minute.

It was not enough, as the Rams got goals from Sarah Clark, Katie Bartlett, Jillian Klem, Allison Leonetti and Lila McNamee to secure the interdivision SCC victory.

Leonetti netted the game-winning goal in the 70th minute for Cheshire, which improved to 13-2.

Shelby Offord made 10 saves in net for Shelton, while Zoe Riccio had three for Cheshire.

Shelton finished the season at 9-6-1 and won the SCC Oronoque Division.

Both Shelton, the defending champion, and Cheshire earned berths in the SCC tournament which begins on Saturday.
