Boys soccer: Gaels advance, will face Cross

The Shelton High boys soccer team beat West Haven High, 1-0, in the first round of the Class LL state tournament on Wednesday night at Finn Stadium.

Mikey Sciortino scored the game-winning goal in the 69th minute for No. 7 seed Gaels (16-3-1).

Shelton will host another Southern Connecticut Conference foe, Wilbur Cross of New Haven (13-5) on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in a second-round matchup.

The Governors edged Hamden High, 1-0, in double overtime to advance in their first-round contest. The winner will face either No. 2 Greenwich or No. 18 Newtown in the quarterfinals on Saturday.
