Girls swimming: Shelton notches best state finish since 2011

Simona Visinski won the 100 freestyle in a school record time of 51.66 and also placed third in the 50 freestyle (24.35) to lead the Shelton High girls swim team to a 10th-place finish at the Class LL championships at Southern Connecticut State University.

For her efforts Visinski was named to the All-State team.

Other top performers for Shelton included Louise Kim finishing seventh in the 50 freestyle (24.60) and 10th in the 100 freestyle (53.74).

The 200 freestyle relay team of Kim, Emma Parkes, Caitlin McGuire and Visinski placed third (1:39.29). The 400 freestyle relay team of Kim, Parkes, Alyssa Bretan, and Visinski placed 6th (3:38.23). The 200 medley relay team of Katie Barber, Pam Zuckerman, Marcella Hundt, and McGuire finished 11th with a time of 2:04.88

Visinski (50 free, 100 free), Kim (50 free, 100 free), Parkes (50 free) and the 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay advanced to the State Open meet at Yale on Saturday.

The 10th place finish was Shelton’s best finish as a team since 2011.
