Girls swimming: Shelton posts best finish at Open

The Shelton High girls swimming team scored its best finish in school history at the CIAC State Open meet on Saturday at Yale University.

The Gaelettes finished 12th with 168 points. Previously, Shelton’s best finish was 13th in 2004.

Competing in individual events for Shelton were the following:

Simona Visinski, who finished fifth in the 50 freestyle with a school record time of 24.16 and third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.79.

Louise Kim finished ninth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.50 and 22nd in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.08

Emma Parkes finished 13th in the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.73.

Shelton’s 200 freestyle relay of Kim, Parkes, Caitlin McGuire, and Visinski finished fourth with a time of 1:38.99. The time was a school record and was also the highest a Shelton relay has ever finished at the State Open meet.

The Gaelettes 400 freestyle relay of Louise Kim, Emma Parkes, Alyssa Bretan and Simona Visinski finished 11th with a school-record time of 3:38.17.
