Connecticut Sports Talk, November 28

Nutmeg Sports, HAN’s Connecticut sport show, airs Monday-Thursday at 2 pm on HAN.Network, hosted by Frank Granito, Donald Eng and various HAN sports editors.

On the Monday, November 28, episode of Nutmeg Sports it is an FCIAC football Monday. Our hosts breakdown Turkey Bowl 2016 between undefeated #1 Darien and #2 New Canaan, the rest of the FCIAC’s Thanksgiving rivalry games and preview all four state classes quarterfinal games for Tuesday, November 29.

Today’s show starts with Frank Granito and Kevin Coleman breaking down Darien’s 37-34 overtime win over rival New Canaan in Turkey Bowl 2016.

After jumping out to a 34-10 lead the Blue Wave saw the 24 point difference dissipate over the final 13 minutes of play as the Rams climbed all the way back to force overtime after Ryan O’Connell scored with less than 20 seconds remaining in regulation.

In the end though it was a Riley Stewart field goal and a Findlay Collins interception, in the extra period, that capped off a 5th consecutive Turkey Bowl win for the Blue Wave.

Next John Kovach joins Frank on Nutmeg Sports to offer his thoughts on the game of the year from Thanksgiving in New Canaan. John also previews Tuesday’s state quarterfinal match ups including #1 Darien vs #8 Greenwich in a rematch of their week 3 42-35 thriller.

Finally Frank and Kevin look back at the 8 other FCIAC Thanksgiving day games and their results and where all of the teams finished the regular season.
