Since 2008 the Sarah Riggs Humphreys-Mary Silliman Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) served free coffee and donuts at the Veterans Day Ceremony sponsored by the Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 at Veterans Park at the Riverwalk in Shelton.
The Chapter members expressed an interest in finding out more about the American Legion, and were pleased that Dennis Salzar from the Sutter-Terlizzi American Legion Post 16 accepted the invitation to speak at its November chapter meeting. He spoke about the various ways the Post supports its Veteran members and their families, and other programs that make a difference to the community at large. At the end of his talk, Chapter Regent Patricia King thanked Dennis for his presentation, and along with Veterans Services Chair Judy Savary, presented Dennis with a check to the American Legion Post to support its activities.
The DAR perpetuates the memory and spirit of the men and women who won American independence. The group focuses on historic preservation, community education and patriotism. Any woman over 18 who can prove an ancestor served in the American Revolution is a prospective member. Learn more at http://www.sarahriggshumphreysDAR.org
