The state Bipartisan Task Force on Gun Violence Prevention and Children’s Safety is holding a public hearing in Newtown tonight, Wednesday, Jan. 30. The proceedings will be aired live on the Connecticut Public Affairs television network, CT-N, or it can be streamed online at ctn.state.ct.us
At the hearing, the public is expected to weigh in on a range of controversial issues relating to the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown on Dec. 14, such as school safety, gun control and mental health.
Preference is being given to Newtown residents and those with a direct connection to the shootings at this hearing, the fourth in a series held by the task force in the past week.
The hearing, to be held in the auditorium at Newtown High School, is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 p.m., with the possibility of running longer if needed to accommodate speakers. Registration for speakers begins at 4:30. Names will be drawn by lottery to determine order of participation.
Testimony may be submitted electronically to email@example.com.
State Sen. Kevin Kelly (R-21) serves on the task force’s mental health subcommittee.
