Messina Hof Wine Cellars has opened a winery at Harvest Green, the farm-centric community by Johnson Development Corp. near the Grand Parkway at West Airport Boulevard in Richmond.

Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen, which broke ground at 8921 Harlem Road in January 2020, is the fourth location for the Texas-based winery and first in the Houston region.

“The expansion of our business with the addition of Messina Hof Harvest Green Winery & Kitchen is a continuation of our vision to innovate and grow Texas wine,” CEO Paul M. Bonarrigo said in an announcement. “We look forward to inviting new guests and familiar faces alike into our doors and to our tables to experience our top-notch hospitality, innovative vineyard cuisine and signature Texas wine.”

Vineyard cuisine incorporates Messina Hof wine with herbs and vegetables from Harvest Green’s neighborhood farm to create dishes such as Petite Sirah Poached Pear Salad, Pork Chop with Fig Agrodolce and Seasonal Bread Pudding.

As Messina Hof's second-largest facility, the Harvest Green location features a tasting room and 83-foot wine bar, full-service restaurant, covered patio, two private tasting rooms, a wine production and barrel room and wine warehouse. The winery will house all of the company's direct-to-consumer shipping operations. Houston-based Crain Group oversaw construction.

The winery partnered with Houston-based Vision Production Group to create augmented reality wine labels for three of its wines. Customers can download an app to use the labels to get information on the wine making process and suggested menu pairings.
