Date for penultimate episode of Disney's CT-inspired 'The Owl House' announced

Disney's "The Owl House," created by a Connecticut native, will be just one episode shy of its conclusion after next month. The second episode of the show's third and final season, titled "For The Future," is set to air on the Disney channel on Jan. 21, 2023, according to IMBD. The final season consists of three 44-minute feature-length specials. "The Owl House" focuses on an Afro-Latina Connecticut girl named Luz Noceda — who is Disney's first bisexual lead character ever — that befriends a witch and enters a magical world. Noceda's hometown, Gravesfield, has elements inspired by the Connecticut's "haunted history." The synopsis for the episode was reported as "Luz and her friends race against Belos to confront the Collector and save the Boiling Isles" by CBR.com. The Collector is an antagonist who is a chaotic childish immoral god. During the final season, the show explores the idea of neurodivergence — the idea that everyone's brain works differently — and it will continue to explore the theme of grief, creator and Hamden Native Dana Terrace told Hearst Connecticut Media in October. The characters will also be fulfilling their own potential during the season, the show's head writer, John Bailey Owen also said in October. "There is actually an article written by [Jade King] about the themes of grief in 'The Owl House' about how different people deal with grief and how someone's death from years ago can have an effect on the choices that characters deal with in the present. That is something I've wanted to explore since the inception of the show, and I'm very happy people picked up on that. There is more of that to come in the next couple of episodes," Terrace said in October. The show's final episodes have already been animated and it's a "surreal experience" for the staff to see them air, director Bo Coburn told Hearst Connecticut Media in November. "So when everything comes together and you see the final product from all the departments, it really touches me a lot of the time. It finally feels like 'Ah we can let the episode go now,'" Coburn said in November. "I'm going to cry really hard when the final episode airs because that is kind of the mark that everyone finished their job." The first episode of the third season has gotten over 4.6M views since being posted on YouTube in October. Terrace said after the show ends she would like to continue the universe through a comic spin-off, which could center around "the lost adventures of Luz and her friends" or a flashback story featuring younger versions of some of the show's adult characters. "I really want to make a [comic]. I want to write it, I want to draw it, I want to work with some old crew members and make it special," Terrace said in October. "Would I do another show? That's hard to say, I would have to think very hard about that." No date has been announced for the last episode of the series as of yet but it is expected to be sometime in 2023.
