Guilford Lobster Pound has one of the East Coast's best lobster rolls, a Forbes writer declared in a recent roundup.

Author Elizabeth Brownfield chose the shoreline spot as home to one of the best seafood sandwiches in the Northeast. Guilford Lobster Pound was the only pick from Connecticut, with the other honorees hailing from Maine, Cape Cod, Narrangansett, R.I.; Long Island and New York City.

"The Guilford Lobster Pound guarantees that you won’t find a fresher lobster anywhere," Brownfield wrote. "That’s because owner Capt. Bart Mansi – who’s been lobstering in Long Island Sound for decades – leaves the dock every morning at 4 a.m. to get the daily catch."

"This is Connecticut, so the only lobster roll you’ll see on the menu is served hot with butter," Brownfield continued. "Grab a seat on the deck to take in picturesque views of Guilford Harbor and Faulkner and Grass Islands while you eat."

Guilford Lobster Pound closed for the winter on Oct. 10, thanking its customers for "an amazing 2022 season."

Two other Connecticut lobster roll destinations made it to an MSN roundup of "America's 30 Best Lobster Rolls" in June. Abbott's Lobster in the Rough in Noank was named "Best Connecticut-Style Hot Lobster Roll," with a blurb mentioning its three portion sizes of "buttery lobster bliss": "famous" (1/4 pound), "OMG" (1/2 pound) and "LOL" or "Lots of Lobster" (one full pound.)

Lobster Landing in Clinton made the list as "Best Seafood Shack Lobster Roll," with the writeup mentioning its "sizeable, hot, super buttery lobster roll with pleasant views of the harbor" and its weathered shack, which has retained its "old-school charm."

Abbott's hot lobster roll was also named Connecticut's best sandwich by Food & Wine in 2021, with writer David Landsel calling the Noank restaurant's offering “the finest Connecticut-style lobster rolls in the land: meat (here, a quarter pound, though you can get more), melted butter, toasted bun, end of story.”

While most of Connecticut's seasonal seafood restaurants are closed for the winter, several others remain open year-round. See a list here.
