Arguably the two best teams in the Southern Connecticut Conference take the court for the first of two matchups, maybe more.

Fifth-ranked Notre Dame-West Haven comes to the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Monday to face No. 10 Wilbur Cross at 4 p.m. It is part of a tripleheader, the Hillhouse and Wilbur Cross girls open the slate at 2 p.m. and the Hillhouse and Bassick boys compete in the finale at 6.

Notre Dame and Cross have squared off in each of the past five regular seasons with Notre Dame owning a 6-3 record. But it is the last two postseason meetings that really seem to resonate: Wilbur Cross, first as a No. 3 seed then as No. 6, beat top seed Notre Dame in both the 2019 and 2020 SCC tournament final at the athletic center.

Notre Dame is undefeated, having had just one victory in single digits, and not even against an in-state team (Hackensack, N.J. on the road). Wilbur Cross suffered consecutive losses to Amity and Fairfield Prep, but have rebounded since with victories over Hand and Law. The Governors do own a victory over second-ranked Northwest Catholic.
