HARTFORD — A city grocery store has been demolished after it was gutted by a fire.

The fire at Sigourney Market, 97 Ashley St. in the Asylum Hill neighborhood, was reported shortly before 3 a.m. Monday, Capt. Jose R. Rivera said. Two firefighters were injured while battling the intense flames, he said; their injuries were minor. No civilians were injured.

Fire officials called for a second alarm about 3:15 a.m., bringing a second crew and equipment to the smoky scene.

The roof of the two-story structure collapsed, and building officials decided it had to be razed.

The cause of the fire couldn’t be determined, Rivera said.
