BETHEL — Education officials will present their $48.6 million budget proposal to the boards of selectmen and finance on Wednesday evening.

The school board has requested increasing spending by 4.7 percent, largely due to enrollment increases and rising mental health and other challenges students are facing. This would be the largest spending increase in years.

The proposal calls for eight new positions. This includes three math interventionists, a social emotional coach, two new elementary school teachers, a new assistant elementary school principal and a custodian.

The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. in Meeting Room A of the municipal center.
