DANBURY — The police department has received a $15,000 donation from a local foundation for health and wellness programs.

Chief Patrick Ridenhour said he expects the money to be used to support the physical and mental health of the officers.

In the past, the department has received donations to upgrade its gym. The department also recently held a program for the spouses and significant others of cops to help them understand the challenges officers may face.

“The more money we get into the pot, the more programs and stuff that we can start to deal with some of the issues and the stressors that our offices face,” Ridenhour told City Council members, who approved the donation this week.

The donation comes from The Ridgefield & Leir Charitable Foundation, Inc. in the memory of Henry J. and Erna D. Leir.
