SHELTON - One person is in serious condition after they were ejected from the car during a rollover crash on Route 8 Friday evening.

Police said the accident happened near Exit 12 on the southbound side of traffic.

Initial reports said that a car rolled over and one occupant was ejected. That person is in “traumatic arrest,” the alert said. Later reports suggest there may be as many as three serious injuries.

At least one person has been extricated from the wreckage and transported to the hospital. Their condition is unknown as of 8:30 p.m.

Paramedics and fire personnel are on scene. DOT personnel are also on scene to assist with the temporary road closure.

Southbound lanes are closed to traffic as of 7:30 p.m., according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

“Motorists should expect delays if traveling in or around the area and are encouraged to use alternate routes as the roadway is currently closed,” said state police in a press release.
