A sweet shop moves downtown

Children, teens and adults can shop to their candy delight at Nikki’s Candy Boutique in downtown Shelton. The store offers a variety of candy for customers of all ages, including sour patch kids, gummy coca cola bottles, milk chocolate turtles, latte truffles and chocolate covered cookie dough, sold by the pound.

Shelton resident and owner, Necole Gutierrez, opened the store on June 20. The shop is located in what was once a home on Center Street, built in the 1900s, Guitierrez said.

Although her boutique attracts buyers of different ages, Gutierrez said the majority of her shoppers are kids with their parents.

“The parents are reminiscing by looking at all the old stuff while the kids are looking at all the newer gummies and sour candies,” she said.

Customers have the option of purchasing their candy pre-packaged or filling a bag with an assortment of their choice at the candy buffet, offered in sizes small, medium and large. Each size has an individual price and allows a specific amount of candy to fill the bags.

In addition to the wide selection of candy displayed in her store, Gutierrez sells candy themed gifts for kids, including purses and lollipop kits. She’ll also make custom candy favors for weddings and showers and hosts parties for customers who wish to celebrate birthdays in the store’s decorated party room.

Although she has not yet received any birthday celebration requests, she said she recently hosted a ladies' night where there were choices of wine and chocolates placed out for tasting. Candy wasn’t the only indulgence at the party, the women who attended the event also had the option of receiving five minute chair massages and buying fashion bags and jewelry sold by different vendors.

Nikki’s Candy Boutique is located at 93 Center Street and is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. For more information visit nikkiscandy.com or call 203-513-8737.
