Some demolition-related work continues on the 12.5-acre property to make way for a future retail complex.

A new development proposal will make some changes in the previously-approved concept plan, which was part of the Planned Development District process. The Shelton Planning and Zoning Commission will need to approve the new proposal, known as a site plan.

Next in the zoning process, the developer plans to seek a modification to allow a new use — for a gas station.

The new plan is expected to include a large supermarket space, with speculation it will be for a Big Y. There’s also talk it will house some smaller stand-alone eateries, including a possible Taco Bell. The developer has been careful not to mention any specific potential tenants for the complex.

The property at 405-407 Bridgeport Ave., owned by an entity connected to the local Blakeman family, also borders Nells Rock Road and Buddington Road.
