An inch of fluffy snow fell in Shelton on Sunday night
As of 10 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 16, about an inch of snow has fallen in Shelton from a fast-moving clipper system.
The flurry began about 7 p.m. and has gone back and forth in its intensity, with large flakes now falling. It is a light, fluffy snow.
The snow has made the roads slick, causing at least two accidents on Route 8 in Shelton during the past few hours.
The National Weather Service (NWS) had predicted snow showers were possible tonight before 11 p.m. in Shelton, but it appears more snow is falling than expected because little or no accumulation had been forecast.
Will get cold tonight
It is supposed to get extremely cold tonight, with a low of 10 degrees. The wind chill factor should get below zero.
Monday will be cold and sunny. Monday is Presidents Day, so Shelton schools and government offices are closed. Some private businesses also will be closed.
More snow is expected Monday afternoon and early Tuesday in Shelton, with a total accumulation of more than 3 inches possible, according to the NWS.
