10 small towns in Texas named top spots for peace and quiet. Here's the list

Sometimes a slower pace of life is a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the big city.

A recent report from the travel website Only in Your State listed "10 small towns in Texas that offer nothing but peace and quiet," and then [we] compared each town to see what Tripadvisor had to say.

In East Texas, San Augustine, Nacogdoches, and a town named Uncertain made the list due to their serene natural surroundings. Tripadvisor's list of "things to do" in each area highlighted a number of nearby nature trails.

San Augustine offers the Mission Dolores Historic State Site as a must-see historic Spanish mission built in 1721 with nature trails and a museum. In Nacogdoches, the top attraction is the guided tour of azaleas, camellias and Japanese maples at the Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

The town of Uncertain has more than a unique name, with multiple Tripadvisor reviews mentioning Caddo Lake and Caddo Lake State Park as top nearby day trip options.

While traveling through the central regions of the state, Brady, Wimberley and Schulenburg made the list for people seeking a little peace and quiet.

Regionally, the Jacobs Well Natural Area in Wimberley is oe of the more popular nearby attractions on Tripadvisor. In the roundup, the cities of Brady and Schulenburg were highlighted for their culture, antique shopping and local cuisine.

Based on Tripadvisor reviews, one of the top attractions listed in Schulenburg is the painted church tour. This guided option takes visitor along an educational tour of a series of local churches built in the late 1800s each featuring early European art from the community's settlers.

Other popular Schulenburg rest and relaxation options include famous bakeries and barbecue spots as well as nearby breweries and wineries

When traveling through West Texas, the small town of Alpine was featured and described as the city where "art class meets the wild west, in all the best ways," according to one Tripadvisor review, describing that the small town as "quiet and adventurous," especially for travelers heading to the Big Bend National Park.

The small towns of West, Jefferson and Canton, located closer to North Texas near Dallas rounded out the top 10.

Not West Texas, but the city of West, its located approximately 30 miles north of Waco. It made the list for its "old Texas town" feel, and according to Tripadvisor, not too much else goes on there.

Jefferson was a little more happening, according to Tripadvisor, and was mentioned for its antique shops and old town museums highlighting the area's history.

The small town of Canton is noted as the home of the "world's largest outdoor vendor and flea market," according to Tripadvisor. The sparawling marketplace is situated across multiple acres with boots and tables selling a variety of items ranging from antiques, fashion, home furnishings and more.
