The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has announced its new workforce development initiative, which will help young men and women prepare for life after high school, become first-job ready, develop a plan for the future, and build the skills that employers value most.

The club is partnering with local businesses and organizations to offer its members internships, workshops, tours of participating businesses, mentorships, skills training, and career experiences. The ultimate goal of the program is to help kids and teenagers explore a variety of careers and to help them develop a plan to pursue their interests. The program will grow as more area businesses join the partnership, helping to strengthen the workforce in the community.

The Santa Family Fund has taken the lead in supporting this new initiative, providing an annual $10,000 commitment for the next three years. Additional support has been secured from the George H. Gamble Fund; The Own Your Future Foundation, Inc.; and Walmart.

The Workforce Development Initiative will help local youth to develop 21st-century skills and a clear vision for their future career goals. The Boys & Girls Club of the Lower Naugatuck Valley has been changing the lives of young people for nearly 70 years, a press release said. With programs ranging from homework assistance to nutrition to sports, the organization helps all young people to reach their full potential.
