Celebrate Shelton a Success
Nicole Heriot-Mikula, Michael Skrtic, and Jimmy Tickey organize and created the citywide initiative,Celebrate Shelton. The three co-founders organized the city’s first ever Downtown Sounds Summer Concert Series and the first day was held Friday evening, July 17.
Heriot-Mikula, owner of bringtheHoopla, explained that the concert series/handmade market aims to draw attention and provide support for small businesses/artisans while also contributing to the sense of community in Shelton.
“Our simple goal is to ignite a greater sense of community while bringing a presence of art and culture to the place all of us call home,” said Heriot-Mikula. “We want our families, friends, neighbors, and fellow business owners to look locally, support the local economy, and see everything the City of Shelton has to offer.”
From the sale of homemade dog treats to the jewelry and face painting, the event proved to be a success as hundreds of people circulated around Shelton’s Riverwalk to see all of the local talent/products.
Music was supplied by Coley O’ Toole and The Wagon Riders. Both acts excited the crowd with their performances and more people filled up the space on the Riverwalk once they began their sets.
Artisans who are interested in participating in the event can visit the Celebrate Shelton website and fill out the application.
Celebrate Shelton’s summer concert series will return to the Riverwalk on Friday, July 24 and Friday, August 7.
