Spooner House has 36 beds for overnight guests as well as the food bank, cafeteria, children’s play room and computer area. It is run by the nonprofit Area Congregations Together.

Upon arrival, clients meet with a case manager to help identify and establish goals. “We want to help people to self sufficiency,” Agamy said.

During their stay, the facility connects clients with many outside social service agencies. “One of our greatest strengths is our partnerships,” Agamy told Himes during the tour.

Spooner House operates 24 hours a day and has four full-time employees and 10 part-time workers. The annual operating budget is about $1.3 million, including in-kind services such as food donations.
