Connecticut Food Bank names new president and CEO
A new president and chief executive officer has been appointed at the Connecticut Food Bank, the state’s largest provider of charitable food donations.
Rob Levine will oversee the nonprofit organization, leading a team of 4,500 volunteers and paid staff as they distribute 40 tons of food a day — enough to produce 46,000 meals — to people in need through a network of 700 partner programs.
Levine joins the Connecticut Food Bank from the American Red Cross, where he most recently served as regional chief executive officer for south Florida.
“I am thrilled to be able to return to Connecticut and to support the extraordinary team that tackles the challenge of hunger, something that touches every community in the state,” Levine said. “Thanks to the Connecticut Food Bank, and the trust of all our supporters and donors, 300,000 of our neighbors know where their next meal is coming from.”
Previously worked in the NBA
A native New Englander, Levine began his career as a radio newscaster in western Massachusetts after graduating from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.
He spent two decades as a professional sports executive, working as director of marketing and broadcasting for the Chicago Bulls and then moving to the NBA league office, where he handled domestic and international business issues and was a senior vice president in the commissioner’s office.
During his time at the NBA league office Levine and his wife lived in Fairfield County. They currently reside in Guilford.
Partners with retailers, growers
The nonprofit Connecticut Food Bank, based in East Haven, works with retailers and growers to coordinate the distribution of enough food to produce more than 17 million meals annually across the state.
Nearly half a million people across Connecticut are hungry every day, according to the organization.
