Site work continues on the 13-acre property on Bridgeport Avenue being readied for a 228-unit apartment complex, following the approval of some revisions in the finalized plan by the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z).

The Talbot Apartments developer has added back varied roof lines with gables after P&Z members complained the previous architectural design was too commercial, resembling a hotel.

“We heard you loud and clear,” said Patrick O’Leary, an engineer representing Talbot.

The complex will have six residential buildings that will be 54 to 60 feet high, with four stories of living space. Facade windows will be built into the roofs but that upper-level space won’t be used for storage or recreational proposes, the developer said.

A seventh building on the site will serve as the clubhouse. There will be 457 parking spaces.

Each building will have three entrances in the front, with an interior center court, as well as two side exits needed for fire safety reasons.

All upper-floor units will have balconies, and railings will be used on ground-level porches as well for privacy and safety reasons, based on P&Z suggestions.

Being promoted as an “upscale” residential community, the property at 740 Bridgeport Ave. is between PerkinElmer and the Fairchild Heights mobile home community, backing up to Route 8.

A thin strip of land with a driveway will connect the complex to Bridgeport Avenue, just north of Planet Fitness and Bertucci’s restaurant.

The final revisions were approved 5-0, with one abstention. It appears actual construction could begin soon.
