Detours a result of nighttime pavement preservation on Route 8

Nighttime pavement preservation on Route 8 Northbound in Shelton, Trumbull, and Stratford; detours are required.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation is announcing that the nighttime pavement preservation project on Route 8 Northbound in Shelton, Trumbull and Stratford is beginning the week of Monday, Sept. 14, and should be concluded by Friday, Sept. 25.

The project begins at mile 4.79 (Before Exit 8) and ends at mile 11.67 (On Ramp for Interchange 13) Northbound. The project consists of fine milling 3" of the wearing surface and replacing it with 3" of Polymer Modified Asphalt. Replacement of the top 1.5" of the wearing surface on all ramps within the project limits will also take place.

Detours are required at the northbound ramps to facilitate the milling and paving operations.

Lane closure


The regular work schedule for this project is from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. (Monday thru Friday).

The following ramp closures have been scheduled:

• Through Sept. 18:  Exit 12 interchange (on and off ramps)

• Through Sept. 18:  Exits 8 and 9 interchange (on and off ramps)

• Week of Sept. 21 through 25:  Exit 13 interchange (on and off ramps)

Only one on or off ramp will be closed at a given time. Detour signs will guide motorists through.

Motorists should be aware that modifications or extensions to this schedule may become necessary due to weather delays or other unforeseen conditions.  Motorists are advised to maintain a safe speed when driving in this vicinity.
