Gas leak forces businesses to evacuate in Shelton

A motor vehicle accident, which resulted in a gas leak, has led to road closures and businesses being evacuated in the area of River Road.

In a prepared statement, Shelton Police Detective Christopher Nugent said the crash occurred about 3 p.m. in the area of River Road and Constitution Boulevard South when a gas utility box truck headed south on Route 110 was struck by another vehicle before colliding with a vehicle going north.

Area businesses and residences were evacuated as a precaution, Nugent said, and part of Route 110 was closed until about 6:45 p.m. while utility companies repaired the damage.

Once the leak was stopped, residents and local business owners were allowed to return to the area and the road was reopened.

No injuries were reported in the crash, Nugent said.

Shelton Police Lt. Robert Kozlowsky said River Road between Murphy’s Lane and Petremont Lane were closed due to the motor vehicle accident that caused the leak.
