Stamford (16-2) swept its way through the first two rounds of the FCIAC tournament to get to the championships, beatings No. 6 St. Joseph, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Ridgefield, 3-0, in the semifinals. Brien McMahon beat No. 5 Trumbull, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and went the distance against Greenwich, downing the Cardinals in five sets in the semifinals.
The Senators beat the Black Knights in five sets on Sept. 28 — the only time they faced each other this season.
