In aftermath of Shelton man’s shooting death, prayer rallies planned
Prayer rallies are planned tonight following a shooting that killed a Shelton man and injured eight others in Bridgeport on early Thursday.
Bridgeport Mayor Bill Finch, community leaders, and local clergy will hold prayer rallies on Thursday evening at Bridgeport’s two hospitals, where several people injured in the early-morning shooting are recovering.
The prayer rallies will take place at 6 p.m. in front of St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, and at 7 p.m. in the courtyard at Bridgeport Hospital.
Shelton victim was age 37
Savonnie “Vahnnie” McNeil, 37, of Shelton was killed during the incident, which is being investigated by the Bridgeport police.
The other victims ranged in age from 27 years old to 59 years old, and all were taken to one of the two hospitals in Bridgeport.
The shooting occurred at about 1 a.m. in the Trumbull Gardens public housing complex in the northern part of Bridgeport.

“These injured men and women are in our thoughts and prayers,” Finch said of the rallies planned for the hospitals. “We are a caring community and we will stand together in prayer, even as police continue to investigate this cowardly crime.
“We want these victims and their loved ones to know that we are standing with them and hoping for fast and full recoveries,” Finch said.

“We have developed leads that we are pursuing, but we need the community’s assistance,” said Bridgeport Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. said.
