BRIDGEPORT — A West Haven man in custody since last March while awaiting trial on child pornography charges has died with COVID-19, his lawyer confirmed Tuesday.

Harold Alling, 53, charged with two counts of possession of child pornography in the third degree, was being held in lieu of bond.

Alling’s lawyer, Daniel Ford of Fairfield, confirmed that his client died with COVID-19 but declined further comment.

The state Department of Correction stated in a press release that a male inmate was transferred from the Bridgeport Correctional Center to a hospital for treatment on Dec. 30, “where he succumbed to his illnesses late Sunday evening” but did not identify the inmate.

Alling had been accused of downloading child pornography at the Milford library.
