Lauretti to release his proposed city budget for Shelton next week
Mayor Mark Lauretti is likely to unveil his proposed 2015-16 budget on March 16 or 17. He is now looking over requests from municipal departments, including that of the Board of Education for just under 5%.
“When you’ve done 23 of them, you don’t have to spend the kind of time you did 20 years ago,” Lauretti said of the budget process. “Some of the stuff is ingrained in my mind.”
One increase will be for expenses related to revaluation, scheduled to take effect in 2017-18, he said.
Lauretti releases his proposed budget, it will be acted on the Board of Apportionment and Taxation, and the Board of Aldermen. By city charter, the mayor must release his budget by March 22, which is a Sunday this year.
Takes effect in July
The new budget will take effect from July 1, 2015 to June 30, 2016. Any change in the tax rate would take effect this July.
Lauretti, a Republican, was first elected in November 1991. He is serving his 12th term and plan to seek re-election this fall.
