Learn about organic gardening at free session in Shelton

People can learn about growing vegetables organically during a free presentation Saturday, April 18 at 10 a.m. at Guy’s Eco-Garden, 276 Leavenworth Road (Route 110).

Shelton farmer Guy Beardsley will present “Organic Gardening with Guy.” The event, held rain or shine, is sponsored by the Shelton Land Conservation Trust Inc. and Guy’s Eco-Garden.

The Saturday presentation is one of a 4-part program covering seed to harvest. Future dates will be announced based on the growing season.

The program is designed for families with an interest in planting a garden of their own at home. Families will learn about testing and amending soil, seed preparation, planting, bugs and diseases, care throughout the growing season, cultivation, and harvesting.

Valuing local farmers

Shelton Land Trust officials said they value the role of local growers and the farmland they keep free from development. Beardsley is a land trust member.
