SHELTON — Tree lightings abound this weekend with three different locations to brighten the holiday landscape.

The tree lightings are open to all. One is Friday downtown, the second is on Saturday at the White Hills Fire Company, the third is Sunday on the Huntington Green. Visits from Santa Claus are expected at each tree lighting ceremony.

Time to celebrate Friday

Celebrate Shelton will hold its eighth annual Community Tree Lighting on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at the Rotary Pavilion at Veterans Memorial Park in downtown Shelton.

Hot cocoa and cookies will be provided, and those attending can shop items from handmade artisans and Boy Scouts of America Housatonic Council troops. Horse-drawn carriage rides will be provided on a first-come basis and ornament making will take place all night.

There will be performances by Valley Shakespeare Festival and Center Stage Theatre and live music with Benny Mikula next to the first-ever community bonfire.

The downtown tree lighting will be held at 7 p.m. Santa will arrive shortly thereafter on the Echo Hose Hook & ladder firetruck. Children are encouraged to bring their letters to Santa and take a photo. Santa will be waving and standing with children, rather than seated.

White Hills tree lighting Saturday

White Hills Voluntary Fire Company’s annual tree lighting will usher in the arrival of Santa and offer residents a chance to brighten the holidays for children in need.

The White Hills Community Tree Lighting — hosted by the White Hills Fire Co. in conjunction with TEAM Inc.’s annual Toys 4 Kids Drive — will be at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. All are encouraged to take part from home to welcome the holiday season as a community. Toys will be accepted at the fire house for the Toys 4 Kids Drive from Dec. 4-12.

Each year, the fire company provides truckloads of new, unwrapped toys for families in need through programs like Team Toys 4 Kids.

On Dec. 11, from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Santa will ride on a fire truck through White Hills where he and his helpers will toss out popcorn balls to children. The trip begins in upper White Hills and ends in lower White Hills.

Members of the White Hills Fire Company will follow Santa’s engine with pickup trucks as part of the fire company’s Toys 4 Kids drive. New unwrapped toys will be collected by the firefighters for distribution by TEAM Inc.

Those unable to drop a toy off at the fire house and miss Santa during his tour can visit teaminc.org and donate.

In the event of poor weather, visit whitehillsfireco.org or the White Hills Fire Company Friends and Neighbors Facebook page for the rain date.

Huntington Green lighting Sunday

The annual Huntington Green tree lighting will be Sunday at 5 p.m.

The event, hosted by RJS Designs, will feature hot cocoa, cookies and a visit from Santa, who will arrive on a Huntington Fire Department firetruck. For more information, visit RJSeventdesigns.com
