Traffic now is flowing normally past Duchess restaurant at 883 Bridgeport Ave. in Shelton, after Yankee Gas crews repaired a gas line break that occurred about 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

The road was reopened at about 11:40 a.m.

Contractors have been doing roadside work in the area in recent weeks, and it appears a gas line was punctured this morning during that work.

Duchess restaurant was temporarily evacuated as a safety measure. Police and fire crews responded, turning away traffic in both directions on Bridgeport Avenue for more than an hour.

The area is near the Shelton Square shopping center with a Stop & Shop. Access to a few businesses was blocked for awhile during the incident.
