Message sent to parents, staff on fake bomb scare

Shelton School Supt. Freeman Burr has distributed the following message on the Shelton bomb threat scare Thursday afternoon at Shelton High School. The threat ended up being false.

Good afternoon students, staff, parents and community members:

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 1:20 p.m. an unidentified male caller left an anonymous voice message at the Shelton Public School’s Central Office. The message was forwarded to my extension and I was called out of a meeting to listen to the message.

The caller, using a disguised voice, made reference to Shelton High School although the description of Shelton High School was only partially accurate. The caller referred to a vehicle at Shelton High School. A description of the vehicle was provided as well.

The Shelton Police Department was contacted and dispatched to Shelton High School. Shelton High School administration instituted emergency procedures while Shelton Police Department and staff conducted a thorough search.

It was determined that the alleged threat lacked credibility. The Emergency Drill lasted approximately 15 minutes and dismissal buses departed beginning at 2:15 p.m.

Feel free to contact me directly if you have any further questions or concerns.
