More than 100 emergency personnel join search for missing man in Shelton

More than 100 emergency workers joined an overnight search for a 47-year-old man who walked away from the Shelton Lakes Healthcare Center (Apple Rehab) late Tuesday night.

Shelton Fire Chief Fran Jones said people on foot and all-terrain vehicles as well as dog teams searched an approximate three-quarters-of-a-mile perimeter around the facility at 5 Lake Road, which is off Shelton Avenue (Route 108) near the high school and intermediate school.

“We used thermal energy cameras,” Jones said at the scene at about 5:30 a.m.

The area surrounding the rehab center is mostly wooded. Searchers went into the surrounding woods, mostly in teams of four.

‘Daylight should help’

As of 6 a.m. on Wednesday, they had yet to find the man, William Luciano, a patient at the facility who has a medical condition.

“Daylight should help,” Jones said. “We still have crews here but have demobilized a bit to wait for daylight.

“It’s still an active scene and will remain so until we reach resolution,” he said.

Missing man is 5-foot-1, 145 pounds

Luciano is described as a white male approximately 5-foot, 1-inch tall, weighing 145 pounds, with light brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue sweatshirt, dark color sweatpants, and rubberized slippers.

Those with information about the whereabouts of Luciano are asked to call the Shelton Police Department at 203-924-1544.
