Online registration deadline is tonight for Shelton charity run Sunday

Online registration closes tonight (Monday) for the fifth annual Sunset Run for the Warriors, which takes place Sunday, Aug. 17 in Shelton.

The race will include a 10K, 5K and a 1-mile walk/run, all beginning at the Huntington Green, as well as a Kids’ Race on the Green.

The opening ceremony will be at 4:30 p.m., with the various races to begin from 5 to 5:15.

The event celebrates the strength and resolve of service members and their families, and the families of the fallen. All proceeds from the Sunset Run for the Warriors will benefit wounded warriors and their families through programs of the non profit Hope for the Warriors.

Online general registration is $20, veteran/active duty registration is $15, Kids’ Race registration is $10, and wounded service members and Gold Star families participate for free by contacting Heather Busicchia at

Some prices will increase by $5 for same-day registration.

Food, band, inflatables, raffles

The event includes more than just the run, walk or Kids’ Race. There also will be food, live music, raffle items, inflatables, and other activities for the whole family. It is open to the entire community.

The race will close with an awards ceremony. Awards will be presented to the top three male and top three female overall finishers, and the top three males and top three females in each age category.
