The accident occurred at slightly past 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes near Exit 13 (upper Bridgeport Avenue/Constitution Boulevard South).

It was snowing at the time, with Shelton picking up about 6 inches in the course of a storm that lasted from Friday afternoon through Saturday late morning.

“Squad 1 protecting the scene of Route 8 at a multiple-vehicle accident,” said a posting from Echo Hose Hook & Ladder, one of Shelton’s four volunteer fire companies.

Also on March 20, Shelton firefighters responded to a vehicle rollover on Shelton Avenue, a chimney fire on Huntington Street, and a gas leak on Meadow Street.
