Police say man was plotting to rob pizza shop

An Ansonia man police said was plotting to rob a downtown pizza shop was arrested Sunday.

Shelton Det. Ben Trabka said police learned of the alleged plot of Slawomir Kret, 27, to rob the pizza place at closing time, so police set up surveillance. Detectives observed Kret arrive with another man Sunday night and park behind the pizza shop, waiting for it to close, Trabka said.

Detectives and Canine Officer Nugent, along with dog Jager, approached the vehicle and ordered the occupants out. Kret did not comply with police and retreated inside the van.

The police dog was deployed and subdued Kret in the van.

Police located masks, gloves, a hat and tool handle weapon from inside the vehicle. The other occupant was not arrested.

Kret was treated and released for his bite wounds at the hospital. He was charged with criminal attempt of robbery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit robbery and interfering with a police officer. He was held on $75,000 bond and was arraigned Tuesday. The investigation is continuing and Ansonia Police assisted.
