Remembering D-Day: ‘Courage and determination on that fateful day’
Congressman Jim Himes, who represents most of Shelton, is among those remembering today’s 70th anniversary of the Allied forces’ D-Day invasion of the French coast during World War II.
“Today we honor the thousands of brave Americans who set ashore on the beaches of Normandy 70 years ago, and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation,” Himes said.
“Their courage and determination on that fateful day turned the tide toward victory in World War II, clearing a path for the liberation of Europe from Nazi domination,” Himes said.
“Let us express our profound thanks to all our veterans and the fine men and women who are now serving in harm's way to protect our freedom and democracy,” he said.
Himes is a Democrat now in his third term representing the Fourth District, which includes much of Shelton as well as most of Fairfield County.
