Republicans sweep local results in Shelton; Foley and Debicella win here big
Republicans had a good night in Shelton, with the city’s three state legislators easily winning. Victorious were state Sen. Kevin Kelly and state Reps. Ben McGorty and Jason Perillo.
In Shelton, Kelly beat Democratic challenger Prez Palmer by 8,584 (72%) to 3,338 (28%). The Senate district also includes parts of Monroe, Seymour and Stratford.
In Shelton, McGorty got 4,085 (85%) votes vs. Green Party nominee Kelly Hanna with 408 (8%) and petitioning candidate Cheryl Jansen with 320 (7%). The 122nd District also includes parts of Stratford and Trumbull.
Perillo ran unopposed in the 113th District, receiving 5,128 votes. This district is located entirely within Shelton.
Other Republicans on the ticket also were victorious.
In the race for governor, Republican Tom Foley defeated Democrat Dan Malloy, by 7,735 (62%) to 4,784 (38%).
In the contest for Congress, Dan Debicella beat Jim Himes, 7,878 (64%) to 4,525 (36%). Debicella lives in Shelton and previously represented the city in the state Senate.
In Shelton, Republicans also won the races for state treasurer, secretary of the state,. comptroller and attorney general.
Probate Judge Fred Anthony ran unopposed for a new term.
