Painter, singer and now author Doris Thorn of Shelton has been expanding her knowledge of — and faith in — God from a very young age. Now 88, Thorn has decided to share her learning and experiences with the world.

Thorn’s book, “Casting Light on the Mystery of God in You,” encompasses the experience and wisdom she’s gathered over the decades, according to publicity material. In the book, Thorn offers exercises for developing spirituality and ways to discover and increase the spirit of God.

Thorn is a resident of Crosby Commons at Wesley Village, an assisted living community in Shelton.

Father was a minister

As the daughter of a Methodist minister, Thorn received religious education at a young age. As she grew up, she wanted to know more, and she began a lifelong quest of religious and spiritual discovery to find her own truth.

For the past 60 years, she has studied various metaphysical books and the teachings of many great religious movements — giving her a wider outlook and overall view of spiritual teachings.

“Casting Light on the Mystery of God in You” is available to order from and Amazon.
