SHELTON — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a male suspect in a bank robbery inside a Stop & Shop Tuesday morning.

Police said the man was seen entering the Stop & Shop on Bridgeport Avenue around 10 a.m., and approached a teller at the People’s Bank inside the store. The man handed the teller a note “demanding cash and implied that he had a gun,” Shelton police Detective Christopher Nugent said.

The man then ran out to the parking lot and fled in a car, described by police as a newer model orange Hyundai Tucson SUV, Nugent said.

The suspect was described by police as a thin white male around 6’4” tall in his mid-to-late 30’s. He was seen wearing a blue sweatshirt with blue cargo pants, work boots and a baseball cap with a “T” logo, Nugent said.

A $500 reward is being offered for information that leads to the man’s arrest through the Connecticut Bankers Reward Association.

Anyone who recognizes the man or has any additional information is asked to contact Shelton police at 203-924-1544. All calls will be kept confidential.
